Stallerhof
Stallerhof
“Stallerhof” leads to the fringes of society, where taboos like murder, abortion and pedophilia are part of everyday life. However, one rule seems to prevail in the Stallerhof: no matter what sin has been committed, it must remain a secret.
The play tells of the life of the supposedly retarded farmer's daughter Beppi, shows her acquired mental weakness and her awakening from speechlessness and lack of independence. Like the servant Sepp, Beppi is suppressed and disregarded by her parents. Her parents suffer deeply from their own inability to live independently and from the ability to change this. After a joint visit to the ghost train, Sepp passes on Beppi, who then becomes pregnant. Suddenly everything changes and Beppi is no longer just a helpless plaything in her environment.
While today it has become the general expectation to always have to be one's best version, the characters in “Stallerhof” are the worst version of themselves. Although everyone is aware of it, they cannot break out of this world. They fear the outside world will condemn them. But this could not be less interested in the everyday struggle of the residents of the Stallerhof. The outside world is silent and ignores the fact that those here also long for a better life.
