The Opera Carousel - An Opera Revue in 13 Parts
THE OPERA CAROUSEL AN OPERA REVIEW IN 13 PARTS "La valse a mille temps" (The Carousel) by Jacques Brel provides the framework. Like a wheel, the opera carousel turns from the 17th century into the present day. Dressed in tails and top hat, the audience is invited to spin a wheel of fortune that, with a bit of luck, will fulfill the musical dream of the lucky angel chosen at random. The result is opera arias and scenes in no particular order, performed by four established soloists (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) alternately in staged opera sequences or in concert form. The performers slip using fewer props and little stage-technical effort, The random principle results in an individual dramaturgy for each event: What happens if Giovanni's champagne aria is randomly shot three times in a row? If the wheel of fortune stops on the white field “Unfortunately no”, will John Cage's 4'33” – not – be heard seriously? Will Nabucco's Prisoners' Choir definitely only ring out from four singers' throats? Each evening at the opera will offer its own surprises and even after repeated visits, different things can be experienced and heard. An opera-loving moderator conducts and steers the evening, when various opera highlights as well as rare musical gusto pieces will sound out improvisationally (but secretly professionally prepared). Who doesn't wish to see excerpts from Mozart's "Magic Flute", "Cosi fan tutte" or "Figaro", Weber's "Freischütz", Dvorak's "Rusalka" and Bizet's "Carmen" in an afternoon performance in a secluded garden or in the evening in a long-forgotten theater building experience and to be able to devote yourself to rare opera pleasures such as excerpts from Delibe's "Lakme", Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" or Handel's "Rinaldo". “…when everything turns; yes, when everything turns...” will conclude every event with the impulse to continue to be able to reach as many people interested in music as possible.
