En transformant la nouvelle de Richard Bissell 7 1⁄2 Cents en comédie musicale, le metteur en scène George Abbott ignorait qu’il rencontrerait un tel succès. Entouré d’une équipe de rêve, dont Jerome Robbins à ses côtés pour la mise en scène, Richard Adler et Jerry Ross faiseurs de tubes musicaux, ou encore Bob Fosse pour la chorégraphie, il signe le plus grand succès de l’année 1954 à Broadway !
