The Solti Centenary Concert

With this very special concert, the renowned World Orchestra for Peace honors the 100th birthday of its founder Sir Georg Solti - and celebrates the history of Solti's musical life with works of particular importance, such as Mozart's Figaro Overture Strauss' tone poem Don Juan, the Adagietto Mahler's Symphony No. 5, Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra and selected arias and ensembles from operas by Mozart and Verdi.
It will be presented from the stage by his widow Lady Valerie Solti.
The concert will feature Valery Gergiev as conductor of the World Orchestra for Peace and world-class soloists Angela Gheorghiu and René Pape, as well as outstanding young alumni of the Solti Foundation and the Solti Accademia di Bel Canto founded after his death.

The World Orchestra for Peace was founded in 1995 by Sir Georg Solti to affirm, in his words, "the unique strength of music as an ambassador of peace". Conducted by Valery Gergiev, it is an ensemble of the finest musicians selected from the world's largest orchestras - most of whom are concertmasters or section leaders in their own orchestras. The orchestra was named a UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2010.
