The clarinet is one of the most versatile orchestral instruments. Its sound cannot be described with just one attribute - the spectrum ranges from soft, warm tones in the low register to piercing, shrill tones in the high register. A whole series of composers have created wonderful works for this "character actress" among instruments. Sebastian Manz, international soloist, chamber musician and principal clarinettist with the SWR Symphony Orchestra, will be bringing two of these to Chemnitz: the Clarinet Concerto, which Aaron Copland wrote for Benny Goodman in 1948, and the Concerto for Clarinet and Jazz Orchestra by Artie Shaw, who played the Production himself in the turbulent 1940 musical film Swing Romance .

These two pieces are framed by the enchanting Trittico Botticelliano, in which the Italian Ottorino Respighi turned three paintings by the Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli into music in 1927, as well as the Second Symphony by Johannes Brahms, about which his friend, the doctor Theodor Billroth, wrote: "It's all blue sky, trickling springs, sunshine and cool green shade!"

Die Klarinette ist eines der vielseitigsten Orchesterinstrumente. Ihren Klang kann man nicht mit nur einem einzigen Attribut beschreiben – das Spektrum reicht von weichen, warmen Tönen in der Tiefe bis zu durchdringend-schrillen in der Höhe. Eine ganze Reihe von Komponist:innen hat diese „Charakterdarstellerin“ unter den Instrumenten mit wunderbaren Werken bedacht. Sebastian Manz, internationaler Solist, Kammermusiker und Solo-Klarinettist des SWR Symphonieorchesters, bringt zwei davon mit nach Chemnitz: das Klarinettenkonzert, das Aaron Copland 1948 für Benny Goodman schrieb, und das Konzert für Klarinette und Jazzorchester von Artie Shaw, der das Stück 1940 im turbulenten Musikfilm Swing-Romanze selbst spielte.

Eingerahmt werden diese beiden Stücke durch das bezaubernde Trittico Botticelliano, in dem der Italiener Ottorino Respighi 1927 drei Bilder des Renaissance-Malers Sandro Botticelli zu Musik werden ließ, sowie die zweite Sinfonie von Johannes Brahms, über die sein Freund, der Arzt Theodor Billroth, schrieb: „Das ist ja lauter blauer Himmel, Quellenrieseln, Sonnenschein und kühler grüner Schatten!“
