Prince – er war einer der ganz Großen der Musik. Funk, Soul, R&B, Rock- und Popmusik wären ohne ihn nicht, was sie heute sind. Der aus Minneapolis (Minnesota) stammende und 2016 im Alter von 58 Jahren viel zu früh verstorbene Künstler, der seit Ende der 1970er Jahre bis zu seinem Tod die Musikwelt nachhaltig beeinflusst hat, hinterließ jede Menge großartiger Songs. Dabei kommen Welthits wie Purple Rain oder Nothing Compares 2 U ebenso zu Gehör wie weniger bekannte Songs wie The Everlasting Now oder 1999, um nur einige zu nennen. Teil der Starbesetzung dieses einmaligen Projekts sind ehemalige Mitglieder der Prince-Band sowie frühe Weggefährt*innen des Ausnahmekünstlers.

Die WDR Big Band ist ein einzigartiger Klangkörper, dessen Geschichte als Rundfunkorchester bis in die 1940er Jahre zurückgeht. Als Jazz-Orchester von Weltklasse wurden ihre Produktionen schon mehrfach mit dem Grammy® ausgezeichnet. Die 17 Mitglieder der Big Band sind Solist*Innen  mit unverkennbarem Stil und begeistern die Menschen mit Spielfreude, Virtuosität und einem grandiosen Klang, den sie in spannenden Kooperationen mit Jazz-Größen und Pop-Stars stetig weiterentwickeln. Der US-amerikanische Jazzmusiker, Komponist und Arrangeur Vince Mendoza ist der WDR Big Band seit Jahrzehnten verbunden und prägt ihr musikalisches Schaffen seit 2016 als Composer in Residence.

Prince – he was one of the greats of music. Funk, soul, R&B, rock and pop music wouldn't be what they are today without him. The Minneapolis (Minnesota) born artist who died far too young in 2016 at the age of 58 and who had a lasting influence on the music world from the late 1970s until his death left a lot of great songs behind. World hits like Purple Rain or Nothing Compares 2 U are heard as well as lesser-known songs like The Everlasting Now or 1999 , to name just a few. Part of the star cast of this unique project are former members of the Prince Band and early companions of the exceptional artist.

The WDR Big Band is a unique orchestra whose history as a radio orchestra goes back to the 1940s. As a world-class jazz orchestra, their productions have received multiple Grammy® awards. The 17 members of the Big Band are soloists with an unmistakable style and inspire people with enthusiasm, virtuosity and a grandiose sound, which they are constantly developing in exciting collaborations with jazz greats and pop stars. The American jazz musician, composer and arranger Vince Mendoza has been associated with the WDR Big Band for decades and has shaped its musical work since 2016 as Composer in Residence.
