The beautiful aria that opens this opera, Ombra mai fu , is one of Handel's best-known melodies. Premiered in 1738, it is one of the last operas by its author and the most Mozartian by the German composer. Satire and passion intersect in a plot characterized by the exposure of the most fragile feelings of the human being without becoming a comedy.
