Bio: Young German Soprano Agnes Selma Weiland will debut as AIDA in summer 2019 at Tiroler Festspiele Erl under the baton of Audrey Saint-Gil.
In summer 2017 she gave her debut as Elsa von Brabant in R. Wagner's LOHENGRIN at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl. She returned there as Elisabeth in Wagner's TANNHÄUSER and as Helmwige in Wagner's WALKÜRE in summer 2018. Under the baton of Gustav Kuhn she sang there Verdi's MESSA DA REQUIEM too.
In autumn 2018 the young soprano sang at Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, Belgium under the baton of Eric Delson Verdi's MESSA DA REQUIEM and at Nikolaikirche Potsdam Beethoven's 9th SYMPHONIE.
From 2009 to 2010 she was a member of the Bremen Opera, singing such roles as Rosalinde FLEDERMAUS (J. Strauß), Donna Elvira DON GIOVANNI (Mozart), Ghita DER ZWERG (Zemlinsky), and 1.Dame DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE (Mozart). This was followed by engagements at the Theater Dortmund, Oper Leipzig, and Theater Bonn. Agnes Selma Weiland gave her debut at Opéra National de Lyon, France in the season 2010-2011 in Mozarts LE NOZZE DI FIGARO. She attracted international attention as “Sancta Susana” in the acclaimed production of the opera of the same name, performed at Opéra National de Lyon in 2012. She later made a guest appearance with this part at Theater Bonn. Since the season 2012/13 Agnes Selma Weiland is singing 1.Dame in Mozart's DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE at Opera Leipzig. In February 2014 she performed her first Wagner role there. In Wagner's RING FÜR KINDER she sang her first Brünnhilde. In April 2014 she sang the title role in Susan Oswell's World-premiere ZELDA staged by Rosamund Gilmore. In season 2014/15 Agnes Selma Weiland sang her first Sieglinde in Wagner's RING FÜR KINDER at Opera Leipzig. In autumn 2015 she gave her debut singing her first big Verdi role: Leonora in IL TROVATORE.
In March 2016 she gave her Switzerland debut and sang 1. Dame in several performances of Mozart's DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE at Theater Basel.
Along with her operatic activities, Agnes Selma Weiland is very much in demand as a song recitalist and oratorio singer. She has sung e.g. at Laeizhalle Hamburg, Frauenkirche Dresden, Gewandhaus Leipzig and Konzerthaus Berlin and furthermore in the USA, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Ireland and Abu Dhabi.
Agnes Selma Weiland comes from Dresden, where she began her musical career. She completed the teaching degree for secondary schools in Music and Italian before enrolling to study voice at the “Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy” Hochschule für Musik in Leipzig with Prof. Hans-Joachim Beyer. She continued her education in Berlin with KS Prof. Dagmar Schellenberger at the University of the Arts. Now she works with KS Renate Behle, Kirsten Schötteldreier and Christina Pless. She has participated in a number of prestigious master classes with singers such as Edith Wiens, Simon Estes, KS Franz Grundheber, KS Olaf Bär, KS Gabriele Fontana, Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet, KS Renate Behle and Kirsten Schötteldreier. In 2009 she took part in Renata Scotto's Operastudio at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome, Italy. Mrs. Weiland has been among prizewinners of several competitions, e.g. the XIII International Singing Competition in Bilbao.
