Bio: Born in Rome, he began his musical career as a jazz bass player. Later approaching classical music, he held for many years an intense concert activity collaborating as solo double bass with important opera and symphonic institutions such as the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, the Orchestra Regionale Toscana and the Orchestra Regionale del Lazio. In parallel with his musical studies he graduated in Physics with the highest marks at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome. He then dedicated himself to Viola da Gamba collaborating with important early music ensembles, such as Elyma by Gabriel Garrido, the violin ensemble Labyrinto by Paolo Pandolfo, Concerto Italiano by Rinaldo Alessandrini, La grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roi by JC Malgoire, with whom he performs in numerous concerts at the most important international festivals and produces more than forty recordings. In 2005 he created the Ensemble Mare Nostrum, with which he recorded in 2006 an original orchestration of the Orgelbuchlein by J. S. Bach for the MA Recordings (USA) which received the Diapason d'Or "Decouverte" (May 2011), and in 2009 Le concert des violes, a collection of French polyphony for the label Ricercar (Belgium, OUTHERE group) awarded 5 Diapason by the French magazine DIAPASON and with the Coup de Coeur 2010 of the Academie Charles Cros in Paris. In 2012 he publishes Il Concerto Delle Viole Barberini, a CD of Madrigals and Roman instrumental music of the '600 for RICERCAR (Belgium) and Nueva España, a CD of Spanish and Mexican music for ALPHA (France). In 2013 Occhi Belli, Occhi Neri, a CD of unpublished cantatas by Marco Marazzoli for ARCANA (Italy) inaugurates a project on Roman music that will lead to the creation of the series The STRADELLA PROJECT, a Cd collection dedicated to the works of Alessandro Stradella born in the bosom at the Baroque Festival Alessandro Stradella of Viterbo of which he is artistic director. The first five volumes, La serenata La Forza delle Stelle and the oratorios S. G. Crisostomo, Santa Editta, Santa Pelagia (first world recordings) are award-winning by international critics, always obtaining 5 Diapason among others. From 2017 he dedicates himself to the operas of Alessandro Stradella; he directs the ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro at the Parco della Musica in Rome in his first opera LA DORICLEA, which comes out as the fifth volume of THE STRADELLA PROJECT achieving great critical acclaim and for which he is awarded as director with the prestigious award of the German critic Preis der deutschen Schallplatten Kritik. In 2018 he directed in Warsaw the first performance in modern times of the work of A. Stradella Il Trespolo Tutore, released in January 2019 on DVD for the DUX label winning immediately the prize Supersonic by Pizzicato. In November 2019 he directed the unknown opera of A. Stradella Amare and Fingere at the WDR Tage Alter Musik festival, which will be released as the sixth volume of the series. In June 2019 he is invited as conductor of the Arturo Toscanini Orchestra of Parma. As director of the Ensemble Mare Nostrum he performed in important international festivals such as TAGE ALTER MUSIK HERNE (Germany), DE BIJLOKE, Gent (Belgium), Festival Internacional de Ubeda y Baeza (Spain), MAISON DE RADIO FRANCE, Paris (France) , Festival Internacional de Musica Sacra of Quito (Ecuador), Academie Bach Arques-la-Bataille (France), Festival of Sain Michel en Tierrache, (France), Festival de Sablé (France), Festival Internacional Cervantino (Mexico), the Festival de FONTDOUCE (France), Festival "Concertes d'été in Saint Germain (Switzerland), Festival LES NUITES BAROQUES Le Touquet (France), Festival IZMIR (Turkey). Andrea De Carlo has given masterclasses at the Academie of Ambronay (France), the Esteban Salas Festival in Cuba, Pamplona (Spain), the Center de Musique Baroque de Versailles (France), the Hochschule of Leipzig (Germany), the University of Guanajuato (Mexico), the Roman Philharmonic Academy, the Fossacesia Ancient Music Courses of the University of Austin (Texas). From 2013 to 2016 he is the director of the Alessandro Stradella International Festival he created, and from 2017 of the Festival Barocco Alessandro Stradella di Viterbo e Nepi, a member of the REMA, the Reseau Européen de la Musique Ancienne. From 2019 he is a member of the board of the Pietà de 'Turchini Foundation in Naples. E tutto questo il bravo Maestro De Carlo ce lo dimostra e fa rivivere con la sua direzione a capo dell’Ensemble della sempre preparata Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice, che risponde al suo gesto perentorio ma delicato e allo stesso tempo gioioso così da dare risalto ai colori della partitura.

Andrea De Carlo se ha ganado los galones del sumo sacerdote de las composiciones de Stradella: es uno de los más grandes intérpretes del compositor… boloñés (sí, porque Stradella nació en Bolonia, y no en Nepi, como se creía). El Ensemble Mare Nostrum está en estado de gracia: toca con un entusiasmo que rivaliza con los intérpretes vocales, subrayando lo que de cómico y gracioso tiene el libreto, siempre bajo la apasionada dirección de De Carlo, que brinda una interpretación llena de colores y rica en contrastes.
