Bio: Hernán Schvartzman followed his first conducting studies at his hometown Buenos Aires with Antonio M. Russo. After some years of working with diverse choir and orchestra associations such as Coral Ars Subtilis, Asociación Coral Lagún Onak and Juventus Lyrica he moved to The Netherlands to carry on studying at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. At this institution he graduated “Cum Lauda” from the Masters in Orchestral Conducting and Conducting of Italian Opera from the 17th and 18th centuries (this last one at the Early Music Department). His teachers and coaches were Jac van Steen, Kenneth Montgomery,
Jos van Veldhoven, Ton Koopman, Peter van Hegyen and Michael Chance.
Hernán Schvartzman has participated in masterclasses given by Neeme Järvi, Frans Bruggen, Simon Halsey and Robert Sund among others, and worked with ensembles such as the Dortmunder Philharmoniker, Holland Symfonia, Gelders Orkest, Residentie Orkest, Ulster Orchestra, Netherldands Chamber Choir, Dutch Radio Choir, Vox Luminis, ASKO|SCHOENBERG, Capella Amsterdam and Tetraktys. He assisted maestros such as Reinbert de Leeuw, Jac van Steen, Richard Egarr and Gabriel Garrido. Hernán has conducted in many of the main halls and churches of The Netherlands: Muziekgebouw aan’ t IJ, De Doelen Rotterdadm, Philarmonia Haarlem, Anton Philipszaal, Koninklijke Schouwburg, Lucent Dance Theater, Nieuwe Kerk and Korzo Theater.
For the foundation OPERA2DAY he conducted Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, Handel’s Agrippina, Scarlatti’s La Giuditta, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Cherubini’s Medée, and Charpentier’s La Descente d’Orphee aux enfers”. For the Opera Association Juventus Lyrica he conducted a full Mozart-Da Ponte Cicle as well as Die Zauberflöte. (Teatro Avenida, Buenos Aires).
During the last three seasons Hernán Schvartzman participated in the selection comitee for the “Composers Showcase” organised by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (BBC NOW). In this program he recorded the awarded chamber pieces with the wind soloists of the BBC NOW. Since the beginning of the season 2011-2012 Hernán is teaching the subject “Ensemble Leading” at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. During the year 2014 Hernán worked as main classical music advisor of the Argentinean Ministry of Culture for the opening of the Centro Cultural Kirchner.
Because of his artistic and academic success, Hernán Schvartzman has been awarded by the Dutch Government with the “Huygens Scholarship”. In the year 2011 he has been selected as a “Musical Top Talent” and cultural ambassador of the city of The Hague by the municipality of The Hauge and the Foundation Venancio and in the year 2012 awarded as Creative Top Talent by the government of The Hague. In 2014 he was nominated as best Argentinean conductor of the year by the Argentinean Association of Musical Reviewers and his production of La Troupe d’Oprhée (The Hague, 2014) was nominated by professionals and elected by the audience to be 'Dutch Opera of the year 2014’.
Hernán just finished a tour of 20 performances of the world premiere of “Mariken in the gardens of earthly delights” by Calliope Tsoupaki -performed by ASKO|Schoenberg, Capella Amsterdam and Ensemble Tetraktys-.
Upcoming productions in 2016 include Gluk’s Orfeo ed Euridice for Juventus Lyrica and Dr Miracle for OPERA2DAY.
