Bio: Juana Inés Cano Restrepo begins her artistic career 2010 as a directors assistant at Oper Graz and the youth theatre Next Liberty. Productions at the Bregenz Festival, Theater an der Wien, the Theater Chemnitz and the Stadttheater Klagenfurt follow, where she assists a.o. Claus Guth, Olivier Tambosi, Philipp Stölzl, Nadja Loschky, Rolando Villazón and Brigitte Fassbaender. 2015 she develops a new programme line for the Oper Graz, “OpernKurzgenuss”, in the context of which she stages “Il Segreto di Susanna” (E. Wolf-Ferrari), „La Voix Humaine“ (F. Poulenc) and „La Decollazione di San Giovanni Battista“ (A. M. Bononcini). With the season 2016/2017 she joins Oper Graz for three years as a directors assistant, where she produces Leonhard Bernsteins “Candide” in a semi-scenic staging in 2018. The very same year she directs Hans Werner Henzes “Pollicino” in an international project, connecting children from Vorarlberg, Allgäu and Bayern. Her production of Martins Zels’ “Die große Wörterfabrik” opens in January 2020 at Theater Münster, where she will return this season to present herself as a librettist for a children’s opera commissioned by the theatre. Furthermore she co-directs “Dunkel ist die Nacht, Rigoletto” at Theater Bielefeld and stages Webers “Der Freischütz” at Landesbühnen Sachsen with renewed dialogues.
