Bio: Hailing from Llanberis North Wales and residing in Cardiff for the last 12 years, Mari Wyn Williams completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Vocal Studies whilst attending the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Suzanne Murphy between 2000 and 2005. Mari continued her studies in 2011-2012 completing a Masters Degree at the Welsh International Academy of Voice, achieving distinction, under the tuition of Dennis O’Neill, Kiri Te Kanawa and Nuccia Focile.Mari has earned many scholarships which include S4C Scholarship, Robart Foulkes Scholarship (New York), James Pantyfedwen Scholarship, Sir Geraint Evans Scholarship and the Lawrence Attwell Scholarship. Most notably Mari won the prestigious Towyn Roberts scholarship at the National Eisteddfod in Meifod 2003. Mari also won first Prize at the Lampeter Eisteddfod 2011 and was a finalist in the Stuart Burrows international competition in June 2014.Mari performed at the Llangollen Pavilion alongside Gwyn Hughes Jones for the 1000’s of Christmas voices concert which was broadcast on the Welsh television channel S4C in December 2012. Television appearances include singing at the closing concert of the National Eisteddfod alongside Bryn Terfel. Mari has been invited to perform at venues worldwide including Strauss’ 4 Last Songs at Westminster Abbey, the Waldorf Astoria in New York, the British embassy in Paris and an opera gala in Hong Kong. In May 2012, Mari performed at the Wales Millennium Centre alongside Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dennis O'Neill, and Jason Howard.In June 2013, Mari performed for Opera Classica Europa singing Elisabetta from Don Carlos in an open air Verdi Opera Gala in Frankfurt. And in September 2013 Mari won third place at the Montserrat Caballe Competition in Zaragoza. She was recently a finalist in the Les Azuriales Young artist programme and competition in Nice, 2014, and in January 2015 she was a Finalist in the Francisco Vinas Competition at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Opera Roles include Lady Macbeth (Verdi), Elettra (Mozart) Giorgetta from Il Tabarro and Nella from Gianni Schicchi, Strauss' Daphne and Leonora from Il Trovatore Brünnhilde for Unexpected Opera’s The Rinse Cycle. This year Mari was one of the Alvarez Young Artists at Garsington Opera and Covered the Role of Elettra from Idomeneo.Future Engagements include visiting Sydney for the Final of The Elizabeth Connell Prize for Dramatic Sopranos and Helmwige for Grange Park Opera. www.mariwynwilliamssoprano.co.uk
