Many ancient cultures believed there were five elements to life on our planet: earth, air, water, fire and aether. Of them all, aether comes closest to describing the essence of music: spiritual, ephemeral and deeply mysterious.

Over the course of four weeks of shared music-making in the beautiful grounds of Dartington Hall, we will celebrate the ethereal power of music through the other four elements. We will journey from the watery beginnings of Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers in Venice and the fiery drama of Handel’s biblical oratorio Athalia, to the earthy lament of Brahms’ Requiem and the airy mysticism of choral music by Vaughan Williams.

There are classes for advanced players, enthusiastic amateurs and complete beginners, family-friendly workshops and courses, and mindfulness and yoga sessions. There are also opportunities in every week to flex your creative muscles in writing, radio making and composition. There really is something for everyone.
