ENG: Puccini's last and unfinished opera "Turandot" is newly staged as part of the Italian Opera Weeks at the Hamburg State Opera. A scream echoes through the millennia. It is now ringing in Turandot's soul. Violence was once done to a woman, now Princess Turandot has sworn vengeance: no man should ever possess it. Whoever competes for them must die if he does not solve three riddles. Many princes have tried, they are all dead. A nameless man comes on the run from war and death and dares to try it ... The fairytale of the opera becomes the garb of a story of desire, power and powerlessness. The
feminine desire against the masculine, the fatherly power against that of the daughters, the self-sacrificing against the self-determined love. In the end, after so much bloodshed, will love still be possible? The opera was not completed, the question not answered - Puccini died in 1924 and his era ended.
