James Conlon concludes the series of symphony concerts in the 2022/23 season with a purely Mozart program. With the overture to Lucio Sillafocuses on the beginning of Mozart's operatic career - he wrote this work for Milan in the early 1770s. The piano concerto KV 503, on the other hand, is a work from the last years of his life. When master pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard turns to this work, his interpretation is influenced by two sides - on the one hand by his profound knowledge of the music of the 20th century, on the other hand by his constant preoccupation with the music of earlier centuries, for example in his collaboration with Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Also from the last years of Mozart's life is the C major symphony KV 551, which is known today as the "Jupiter symphony" - the nickname probably comes from resourceful music publishers.

Mit einem reinen Mozart-Programm beschliesst James Conlon den Reigen der Symphoniekonzerte in der Saison 2022/23. Mit der Ouvertüre zu Lucio Silla richtet sich der Blick auf den Anfang von Mozarts Opernkarriere – er schrieb dieses Werk in den frühen 1770er-Jahren für Mailand. Das Klavierkonzert KV 503 ist hingegen ein Werk der letzten Lebensjahre. Wenn Meisterpianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard sich diesem Werk zuwendet, ist seine Interpretation von zwei Seiten beeinflusst – zum einen von seiner profunden Kenntnis der Musik des 20. Jahrhunderts, zum anderen von seiner fortwährenden Beschäftigung mit der Musik früherer Jahrhunderte, etwa in der Zusammenarbeit mit Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Ebenfalls aus den letzten Lebensjahren Mozarts stammt die C-Dur-Symphonie KV 551, die heute als «Jupiter-Symphonie» bekannt ist – der Übername stammt vermutlich von findigen Musikverlegern. Johannes Brahms stellte die letzten drei Symphonien Mozarts («Jupiter» ist eine davon) in ihrer Bedeutung über die ersten Symphonien Beethovens, somit verabschiedet sich das Berner Symphonieorchester mit einem besonders markanten Schlusspunkt in die Konzert-Sommerpause und ermöglicht die Wiederbegegnung mit einem Werk, das vielen Musikfreundinnen und -freunden sehr ans Herz gewachsen ist.
