ABOUT THE PLAY
The libretto of "La Boheme" was written based on the novel by the French writer Henri Murger "The Life of Bohemia". This work depicts the life of talented but poor young artists - poets, artists, musicians, inhabiting the Latin Quarter in Paris. In collaboration with J. Barrier, the writer reworked his novel into a five-act play La bohème, which was also a success. In 1893, L. Illika and D. Giacosa began to write a libretto based on Murger's novel; work continued for about two years. The music was composed by Puccini in eight months. The first performance of the opera took place on February 1, 1896 at the Teatro Regio (Turin).

Short description

The performance tells the story of four friends: the poet Rudolph, the artist Marcel, the musician Schonar, the philosopher Collen. Everyone experiences their own spiritual drama. Lack of money, troubles at work, depression are constant companions of creative friends. How important in such a difficult time not to “fall into the abyss” and remain human!

The love affairs of Rudolph with Mimi and Marcel with Musetta cannot be called simple. But everyone unites in a close-knit friendly company when a serious trouble comes ...
