The work is the foundation of the Festival.
She launched the beginning of the Mahler cycle in the Basilica which persists and
successful sign for 35 years.
This "Resurrection" is the monument of music that we expect:
two solo singers, a vast
choir, a titanic orchestral set with more than 25 brass instruments and
percussion… a wave of sounds
and emotions with the famous Urlicht
of the mezzo, and this gigantic finale
chorale, which is reminiscent of a
certain Beethoven and his hymn to the
joy.

It is also the composer's most mystical symphony, clearly
turned towards the Christian faith and the
Nature, so beautifully celebrated.
More than ever, the composer
questions the world, tells us about
meaning of life, of death.
At the head of the Radio Choir
France, of the Orchester National de
France, a young American chef,
James Gaffigan, is to be discovered from
urgently. Former assistant of
Sir Michael Tilson Thomas, Music Director of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Principal Conductor
of the Philharmonic of the Radio des
Netherlands, successor to James
Conlon at the Gürzenich Orchester, his
already very brilliant career explodes
across the Atlantic. His debut at
Saint-Denis also score
those of his first major concerts
in France.
Genia Kühmeier sang several
times at the Festival and in the company of
best… As for Nathalie
Stutzmann, this Mahler is a great
reunion time. Artist
flagship of this edition, we find her in another role and in a
another directory, but which is not
without parentage. To be continued.

L’œuvre est fondatrice du Festival.
Elle a lancé le début du cycle Mahler dans la Basilique qui persiste et
signe depuis 35 ans avec succès.
Cette « Résurrection » est le monument de musique que l’on attend :
deux chanteuses solistes, un vaste
chœur, un plateau orchestral titanesque avec plus de 25 cuivres et
percussions… une déferlante de sons
et d’émotions avec le fameux Urlicht
de la mezzo, et ce gigantesque final
choral, qui n’est pas sans rappeler un
certain Beethoven et son hymne à la
joie.
C’est aussi la symphonie la plus mystique du compositeur, clairement
tournée vers la foi chrétienne et la
Nature, si magnifiquement célébrée.
Plus que jamais, le compositeur
questionne le monde, nous parle du
sens de la vie, de la mort.
A la tête du Chœur de Radio
France, de l’Orchestre National de
France, un jeune chef américain,
James Gaffigan, est à découvrir de
toute urgence. Ancien assistant de
Sir Michael Tilson Thomas, directeur musical de l’Orchestre Symphonique de Lucerne, chef principal
du Philharmonique de la Radio des
Pays-Bas, successeur de James
Conlon au Gürzenich Orchester, sa
déjà très brillante carrière explose
outre-Atlantique. Ses débuts à
Saint-Denis marquent également
ceux de ses premiers grands concerts
en France.
Genia Kühmeier a chanté plusieurs
fois au Festival et en compagnie des
meilleurs… Quant à Nathalie
Stutzmann, ce Mahler est un grand
moment de retrouvailles. Artiste
phare de cette édition, on la retrouve dans un autre rôle et dans un
autre répertoire, mais qui n’est pas
sans lien de filiation. A suivre.
