Krzysztof Penderecki's Credo is a monumental and moving work written for a mixed choir, a boys' choir, a symphony orchestra and five soloists. It draws inspiration from Bach's great oratorio works and  Beethoven's Missy Solemnis  . It was originally intended to be a mass commissioned from the composer to honor two prestigious festivals: the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart and the Oregon Bach Festival. However, while composing its first part - credo (Latin: 'profession of faith', literally: 'I believe') - it began to grow so much that it finally became an independent work. The work consists of nine parts composed around Latin, Polish and German texts.

Antonin Dvořák's Te Deum was commissioned by Jeanette Thurber of the New York Conservatory, when the composer became head of that institution. The composition was intended to be a ceremonial cantata composed in 1892 on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. It is characterized by a meditative depth of expression achieved using simple means of expression.
