6th philharmonisches konzert
Oratorio / Orchestral
Mihkel Kütson conducts the 6th entitlement concert of the season. The conductor, who comes from Estonia, has been general music director at the Theater Krefeld/Mönchengladbach since 2012/13. In 2006, shortly after Kütson had won the German Conductor's Prize, he made his debut with the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic. For his renewed guest conducting he has put together a British program with a focus on Scotland. Peter Maxwell Davies ' orchestra piece "An Orkney Wedding with Sunrise", composed in 1985, opens the concert evening in an entertaining and amusing way: A wedding celebration on one of the Orkney Islands in Scotland is described. A bagpiper announces the sunrise and ends the merrily boisterous festival. As Max Bruch himself confessed, he was inspired to write his Scottish Fantasy, Op. 46, by the Scottish writer Walter Scott. The result is a violin concerto based on Scottish folk songs. At the premiere, which took place in London in 1883 under the direction of the composer, the dedicatee Pablo de Sarasate took over the solo part. The award-winning violinist Anna-Liisa Bezrodny, who completed her music studies in Helsinki and London, was won for the performance with the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic. Edward Elgar dedicated a symphonic study to the crook and drunkard Sir John Falstaff, known from Shakespeare's plays, which premiered at the Leeds Festival in 1913. He enjoyed writing Falstaff, says Elgar, "more than any other music I have composed and perhaps that is why it will prove to be one of my finest achievements". Peter Maxwell Davies: „An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise“ Max Bruch: Scottish Fantasy for violin and orchestra op. 46 Edward Elgar: "Falstaff". Symphonic Study in C minor, Op. 68
