Memento Vitae, das Kammerorchesterwerk der ukrainischen Komponistin Julia Gomelskaya, ordnet sich keiner Tonart unter, um der Uneindeutigkeit von Spirituellem und Jenseitigem Ausdruck zu verleihen. Doch haben Tonarten überhaupt einen bestimmten Charakter? „Daß nun ein jeder Tohn etwas sonderliches an sich habe und sie in dem EFFECT einer von dem andern sehr unterschieden sind, ist wol einmahl gewiß“, davon war der Musiker und Komponist Johann Mattheson im 18. Jahrhundert fest überzeugt. Heute gilt die sogenannte Tonartencharakteristik als zweifelhaft. Eine besondere Gelegenheit also, dass zwei Stücke dieses Sinfonie- konzerts in derselben Tonart stehen: c-Moll. In welchen Gewändern zeigt sich die Tonart in Rachmaninows und Brahms’ Werken? Scheint auch der schicksalhaft-tragische Ausdruckswert durch, der der Tonart zugeschrieben wird?
Gastdirigent Christian Øland tritt bereits zum dritten Mal auf das Magdeburger Konzertpodium. Dieses Mal gemeinsam mit dem Pianisten Andrew von Oeyen, dessen Spiel von der belgischen Tageszeitung Le Soir als eine Vereinigung und Entfaltung von „Kraft, Präzision, Charakter, aber auch Zartheit in einer Myriade von Atmosphären“ und „voller belebender und erlösender Energie“ beschrieben wird.
