De Frans-Mexicaanse operaster Rolando Villazón betovert wereldwijd het publiek met zijn fenomenale vocale beheersing en ongeëvenaarde charisma. Bekend als “de meest charmante van de huidige divo’s” (The Times) met “een heerlijk viriele stem ... grandezza, elegantie en kracht” (Süddeutsche Zeitung), is Villazón een van de meest veelzijdige artiesten van vandaag.

Zijn grote doorbraak beleefde Rolando Villazón in 2005 toen hij Alfredo zong aan de zijde van Anna Netrebko (Violetta) en Thomas Hampson (Germont) in de La traviata-enscenering van Willy Decker op de Salzburger Festspiele. In de jaren die daarop volgden was hij in alle glansrollen voor tenor te horen in operahuizen als de Wiener Staatsoper, de Opéra National de Paris, de Metropolitan Opera te New York en de Milanese La Scala. Overal ontwikkelde hij zich tot een bijzonder publiekslieveling.

Als intendant van de Mozartwoche richt hij zich de laatste tijd steeds meer op Mozart, zowel op als naast het podium. Zijn meest recente rol? De vogelvanger Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) in de Metropolitan Opera van New York!

French-Mexican opera star Rolando Villazón captivates audiences worldwide with his phenomenal vocal mastery and unparalleled charisma. Known as “the most charming of today's divos” (The Times) with “a wonderfully virile voice…grandezza, elegance and power” (Süddeutsche Zeitung), Villazón is one of the most versatile artists today.

Rolando Villazón had his big break in 2005 when he sang Alfredo alongside Anna Netrebko (Violetta) and Thomas Hampson (Germont) in Willy Decker's La traviata staging at the Salzburg Festival. In the years that followed, he played all the star roles for tenor in opera houses such as the Wiener Staatsoper, the Opéra National de Paris, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Milanese La Scala. Everywhere he developed into a special public favorite.

As intendant of the Mozartwoche, he has recently focused more and more on Mozart, both on and off stage. His most recent role? The Birdcatcher Papageno ( Die Zauberflöte ) at the New York Metropolitan Opera!
