“Dit werk bevat de spannendste ingrediënten die je maar kunt hebben in een opera: erotiek en macht”, aldus regisseur Barrie Kosky. Hij weet als geen ander levensechte personages neer te zetten, die manoeuvreren tussen ironie en ernst.

 

SUCCESVOLLE TRADITIE
Het werk van Händel kent een levendige en succesvolle traditie bij De Nationale Opera. In de afgelopen jaren stonden onder meer Ariodante, Jephtha, Rodelinda en Giulio Cesare al op het programma. De opera Agrippina werd nog niet eerder bij DNO uitgevoerd. De muzikale leiding van deze primeur is in handen van Händelspecialist Ottavio Dantone, die zijn debuut maakt als dirigent bij De Nationale Opera. Zijn eigen, prijswinnende barokorkest Accademia Bizantina neemt plaats in de bak.

De veelgeprezen mezzosopraan Stéphanied’Oustrac maakt na haar DNO-optredens in L’étoile en Idomeneo haar roldebuut als keizerin Agrippina. D’Oustrac schittert naast de opkomende countertenor John Holiday (Nerone), die eerder bij DNO te zien was in We Shall Not Be Moved, en de bij het Amsterdamse publiek geliefde sopraan Ying Fang (Poppea).

SUCCESSFUL TRADITION
Handel's work has a lively and successful tradition at Dutch National Opera. In recent years, Ariodante, Jephtha, Rodelinda and  Giulio Cesare have already been on the program. The opera Agrippina has never been performed at DNO before. The musical direction of this premiere is in the hands of Handel specialist Ottavio Dantone, who is making his debut as a conductor with Dutch National Opera. His own, award-winning baroque orchestra Accademia Bizantina takes place in the arena.

 Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Stéphanied'Oustrac makes her role debut as Empress Agrippina following her DNO performances in L'étoile and Idomeneo . D'Oustrac shines alongside the up-and-coming countertenor John Holiday (Nerone), who previously performed at DNO in We Shall Not Be Moved , and the soprano Ying Fang (Poppea), much loved by the Amsterdam public.
