The unusual opera of the aging master Verdi is one of the most popular works of world opera literature. It was created to order, which came from exotic Cairo and was to be introduced as part of the ceremony at the opening of the Suez Canal. Although it did not go according to plan and the work was heard a little later, the ceremonial character remained unchanged.
