Kariera Heinricha Ignaza Franza von Bibera (1644-1704) jako wirtuoza skrzypiec kwitła przede wszystkim w Salzburgu, natomiast jego kompozycje znane były nie tylko na terenie Cesarstwa, lecz także we Francji i Włoszech. Mistrz melodii i kontrapunktu jest autorem znakomitych dzieł zarówno instrumentalnych, jak i wokalnych, świeckich i religijnych. Choć wyjątkowe miejsce na kartach historii muzyki zapewniła mu twórczość skrzypcowa, to także kompozycje zespołowe, takie jak Balletti lamentabili, Harmonia artificiosa-ariosa oraz Fidicinium sacro-profanum, zachwycają wyrafinowaniem harmonicznym i kunsztem melodycznym.

Podczas koncertu zabrzmią także trzy z zaledwie siedemnastu zachowanych do dziś kompozycji wokalno-instrumentalnych niemieckiego organisty Franza Tundera (1614-1667). Ach Herr, lass deine lieben Engelein oraz An Wasserflüssen Babylon opierają się na tekstach (a w drugim przypadku także melodii) chorału protestanckiego, natomiast słowa koncertu kościelnego Ein kleines Kindelein zaczerpnięte są z Nowego Testamentu.

Zdecydowanie okazalszą spuściznę pozostawił po sobie Johann Joseph Fux (1660-1741) – austriacki kompozytor i teoretyk, którego słynny traktat Gradus ad Parnassum (1725) do dziś uznawany jest za kluczowe źródło dotyczące zasad kontrapunktu. Jego oddające atmosferę panującą na wiedeńskim dworze Habsburgów kompozycje stanowią doskonały przykład stylu późnobarokowego.

The career of Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber (1644-1704) as a violin virtuoso flourished mostly in Salzburg. His compositions, on the other hand, were known and appreciated not only in the Empire but also in France and Italy. The master of melody and counterpoint is the author of excellent works, both vocal and instrumental, secular and religious. Although it is primarily his violin works that granted him a special place in the history of music, ensemble compositions such as Balletti lamentabili, Harmonia artificiosa-ariosa, and Fidicinium sacro-profanum delight with harmonic refinement and melodic craftsmanship.

The concert will also feature three out of only seventeen vocal-instrumental compositions by the German organist Franz Tunder (1614-1667) that have survived to this day. Ach Herr, lass deine lieben Engelein and An Wasserflüssen Babylon are based on the texts (and, in the latter case, also the melodies) of Protestant chorales, while the words of the church concerto Ein kleines Kindelein are taken from the New Testament.

A much more impressive musical legacy was left by Johann Joseph Fux (1660-1741) – an Austrian composer and theorist whose famous treatise Gradus ad Parnassum (1725) is still considered a key source on the principles of counterpoint. His compositions are a perfect example of the late baroque style, reflecting the atmosphere of the Viennese Habsburg court.
