Giacomo Puccini: Bohéma Legendary German opera director Peter Konwitschny returned to Bratislava to study another title - Puccini's Bohéma - after Eugene Onegin and Madame Butterfly. This work acquires a new form in its presentation, understandable not only to opera connoisseurs. The director tells a beautiful and sad story about four young men without money without sentimentality, simply and convincingly. The scenes of the opera are full of cheerfulness and often black humor of the "bohemians" who overlap their depressions and feelings of futility. Their jokes and their loves are in a way a struggle for life. Legendary German opera director Peter Konwitschny returned to Bratislava to study another title in the SND, after Eugene Onegin and Madam Butterfly - Puccini's Bohemians. The director tells the engaging story of four poor young artists without sentimentality, simply and convincingly. Puccini's veristic interpretation mixes smiling scenes with tragic ones as a faithful picture of everyday life; and Konwitschny's view of him is penetrating and full of understanding. Where is the line between smile and crying? Are young men on the fringes of society just looking for a woman's arms, or is the desire for love their call for help? In the hands of director Konwitschny, Bohém does not lose any of his beauty - and at the same time he gains in dramatic truthfulness and strength.
