Old and new side by side: The Company of Music is once again arranging its program according to this motto. Only this time the "old" and "new" are not so far apart, but only about a hundred years. On the one hand there is a selection of German folk songs compiled around 1864 by Johannes Brahms, who was very interested in folk songs throughout his life and published numerous collections. Of course, as in the past, it is still possible to discuss to what extent these are »folk songs«. On the other hand, there are some works on the program that can be described as classics of new music, such as »Lux aeterna« from 1966 by György Ligeti, which became widely known through its use in Stanley Kubrick's film »A Space Odyssey«.

Altes und Neues nebeneinander: Nach diesem Motto gestaltet die Company of Music auch dieses Mal wieder ihr Programm. Nur liegen das »Alte« und »Neue« dieses Mal gar nicht so weit aueinander, sondern nur etwa hundert Jahre. Zum einen erklingt eine Auswahl von etwa 1864 zusammengetragenen deutschen Volksliedern von Johannes Brahms, der sich sein Leben lang sehr für Volkslieder interessiert und zahlreiche Sammlungen herausgegeben hat. Freilich lässt sich noch heute, wie schon damals, diskutieren, inwiefern es sich hierbei um »Volkslieder« handelt. Zum anderen stehen einige Werke auf dem Programm, die man als Klassiker der Neuen Musik bezeichnen kann, so etwa »Lux aeterna« aus dem Jahr 1966 von György Ligeti, das durch die Verwendung in Stanley Kubricks Film »A Space Odyssey« weite Bekanntheit erlangte. Ebenso ätherisch sind Ligetis »Drei Phantasien nach Friedrich Hölderlin«, die aus den Gedichten lautmalerische Klangwolken formen.
