In English baroque music, an ode is a piece for orchestra, chorus and soloists. The odes resembled oratorios, but were not so large-scale, and the British wrote quite a lot of them, for various reasons, tragic or joyful. At the end of the 17th century, they began to celebrate the day of St. Cecilia, who was considered the patroness of music, with odes. On this occasion, on November 22, after a solemn service at Westminster Abbey, a festive dinner and a concert were held, at which many musicians performed an ode glorifying Cecilia and the art of music. Among the famous authors of such works were the poet John Dryden, composers Henry Purcell and Georg Friedrich Handel.

At this concert you will hear two of the most famous odes of Purcell and Handel, for which an international team of soloists will join the Pratum Integrum orchestra and the Intrada vocal ensemble. Conducting will be Christian Kernin, founder of the Early Opera Company, award-winner of the English Gramophone magazine and BBC Music magazine.
