Las Meninas – Η μουσική πίσω από τον πίνακα
 
Η μακρά βασιλεία (1621–1665) του Φιλίππου Δ' χαρακτηρίστηκε από την πολιτική, στρατιωτική και οικονομική παρακμή της Ισπανίας, αλλά ταυτοχρόνως και από μια απαράμιλλη άνθηση των γραμμάτων και των τεχνών, καθώς ο ίδιος υπήρξε μεγάλος λάτρης του θεάτρου και ενθουσιώδης συλλέκτης έργων τέχνης. Στην αυλή του βρήκαν στέγη πολλοί σημαντικοί δημιουργοί της Ισπανικής Χρυσής Εποχής, με τα ονόματα των Pedro Calderόn de la Barca και Diego Velázquez να ξεχωρίζουν. Ποια όμως ήταν η μουσική που έντυνε τις παραστάσεις του Calderόn ή άκουγε ο Velázquez όταν δημιουργούσε έργα του όπως Οι δεσποινίδες των τιμών (Las meninas), αναμφισβήτητα ένα από τα σημαντικότερα της Δυτικής τέχνης;
Το πρόγραμμα βασίζεται σε έργα τριών συνθετών που προσέφεραν τις υπηρεσίες τους στον Φίλιππο: του Juan Hidalgo, αρχιμουσικού της αυλής και στενού συνεργάτη του Calderόn, του José Marín, κάντορα του βασιλικού παρεκκλησίου, και του Gaspar Sanz, του σημαντικότερου ίσως Ισπανού κιθαρίστα του 17ου αιώνα και δασκάλου κιθάρας του Don Juan José de Austria, νόθου γιου του Φιλίππου.

Fandango – Η Ισπανία του Boccherini και του Goya
 
Ο Luigi Boccherini, ένας από τους σημαντικότερους βιολοντσελίστες και συνθέτες του β' μισού του 18ου αιώνα, έζησε το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της ζωής του στην Ισπανία δουλεύοντας στην υπηρεσία του Infante Don Luiz, στην αυλή του οποίου γνώρισε και τον Francisco Goya. Απομονωμένος από την κεντρική Ευρώπη, ο Boccherini γράφει τη δικιά του μουσική, ιδιαίτερα πρωτότυπη και προσωπική, θερμή και αισθησιακή, δεξιοτεχνική αλλά ελαφριά κι ευαίσθητη, προτείνοντας μια μεσογειακή απάντηση στον βιεννέζικο κλασικισμό. Τα Κουιντέτα εγχόρδων για δύο βιολιά, βιόλα και δύο βιολοντσέλα αποτελούν σημαντικό και ιδιαίτερα πρωτότυπο κομμάτι της παραγωγής του. Στο πρόγραμμα, παρουσιάζονται τρία από τα πιο ώριμα και όμορφα Κουιντέτα με έντονη ισπανική επιρροή – το προγραμματικό Quintettino, La Musica Notturna delle strade di Madrid, που περιγράφει τους ήχους και τη μουσική της νυχτερινής Μαδρίτης, και τα δεξιοτεχνικά, υπέροχα Κουιντέτα σε ντο ελάσσονα και σε ρε μείζονα. Η συναυλία κλείνει με το διάσημο και λαμπερό Fandango, συνδυάζοντας τις δύο αυθεντικές εκδοχές του, για κουιντέτο εγχόρδων και για κουιντέτο με κιθάρα.

Part I
Las Meninas – The Music Behind the
 
Painting Philip IV's long reign (1621–1665) was characterized by political, military and economic decline of Spain, but at the same time by an unparalleled flourishing of letters and the arts, as he himself was a great lover of the theater and an enthusiastic collector of works of art. Many important creators of the Spanish Golden Age found shelter in his yard, with the names of Pedro Calderón de la Barca and Diego Velázquez standing out. But what was the music that clothed Calderón's performances or did Velázquez listen to when he created his works such asThe (Las meninas ), undoubtedly one of the most important of Western art?
The program is based on works by three composers who offered their services to Philip: Juan Hidalgo, chief court musician and close associate of Calderón, José Marín, cantor of the royal chapel, and Gaspar Sanz, perhaps the most important Spanish guitarist of the 17th century century and guitar teacher of Don Juan José de Austria , Philip's illegitimate son.

Part II
Fandango – The Spain of Boccherini and Goya
 
Luigi Boccherini, one of the most important cellists and composers of the second half of the 18th century , lived most of his life in Spain working in the service of the Infante Don Luiz, in in whose yard he also met Francisco Goya. Isolated from central Europe, Boccherini writes his own music, highly original and personal, warm and sensual, virtuosic yet light and sensitive, proposing a Mediterranean response to Viennese classicism. The String Quintets for two violins, viola and two cellos are an important and highly original piece of his production. In the program, three of the most mature and beautiful are presentedQuintets with a strong Spanish influence – the programmatic Quintettino , La Musica Notturna delle strade di Madrid , describing the sounds and music of Madrid at night, and the virtuosic, magnificent Quintets in C minor and D major . The concert closes with the famous and brilliant Fandango , combining its two original versions, for string quintet and guitar quintet.
