Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his librettist Da Ponte dissect in the "School of Lovers", as the subtitle of their last joint work, premiered in Vienna in 1790, is the phenomenon of love in the field of tension between betrayal and loyalty, self-surrender and freedom. Mozart's music mercilessly penetrates the characters' surface and reveals their emotional confusion in this game between truth and lies. Dominik Wilgenbus, who recently staged “The Vetter from Dingsda” at the Volkstheater Rostock and “Zaira” at the Stadttheater Gießen and his set designer Sandra Münchow, pursued this ambiguity of the game and the “enlightening brutality of looking through”.
