Richard Wagner erected a monument to her with his Tristan : Mathilde Wesendonck, the composer's adored muse and author of five poems, which Wagner set to music in his Wesendonck songs . The work - which we can experience prominently cast with Daniel Barenboim and the mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča - offers texts full of longing and daydreams, for which Wagner found an urgent, then new harmony. César Franck was deeply impressed by Wagner and masterfully combined his style with an unmistakably French intonation - for example in his main work, the late Romantic Symphony in D minor.

Richard Wagner setzte ihr mit seinem Tristan ein Denkmal: Mathilde Wesendonck, angebetete Muse des Komponisten und Autorin von fünf Gedichten, die Wagner in seinen Wesendonck-Liedern vertonte. Das Werk – bei uns prominent besetzt zu erleben mit Daniel Barenboim und der Mezzosopranistin Elīna Garanča – bietet Texte voller Sehnsucht und Träumerei, für die Wagner eine drängende, damals neue Harmonik fand. César Franck war tief beeindruckt von Wagner und verband dessen Stil virtuos mit einem unverkennbar französischen Tonfall – etwa in seinem Hauptwerk, der spätromantischen Symphonie in d-­Moll.
