A director would like to produce Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor with his ensemble - but his claim to absolute power, his unusual ideas and the peculiarities of the actors cause a number of difficulties during the rehearsals. Is it still possible to inspire the audience with a great production?

Mozart's comedy with music was created in 1786 as a commission from Emperor Joseph II, who wanted a play that would take its audience into the turbulent world behind the scenes of the theater. Oscillating between affectionate humour, self-irony and bitter satire, the new Erfurt version offers insights into the inner workings of the music theater business.
