DIDON & ÉNÉE | TEASER

Dido et Aeneas , the first real English opera, composed in 1689 by Henry Purcell after  Virgil 's Aeneid, recounts the passion between the queen of Carthage Dido and the Trojan prince Aeneas, torn between love and duty. Dido, initially hesitant, yields in spite of everything to Aeneas who, deceived by a witch, abandons his beloved. This opera with Shakespearean accents masterfully mixes comedy and tragedy, carried by the delicacy of a story that does not leave a moment of respite. The dramatic tension highlighted by the melodic richness and the significant presence of the choirs give this baroque masterpiece an astonishing emotional power which culminates with the death of Dido.

In a scenography all in tulle inspired by Robert Irwin, the show, served by a beautiful cast, thus plays on opacity and transparency, but also on the blurring of reality and imagination, memory and erasure. Bewitching.
