The ultimate operetta hit returns to the stage in Hall 207! Cheeky and funny, the Merry Widow from Rostock already received storms of applause last summer. Due to Corona, only a few people could be there - now the experience is available to many.
Franz Lehár composed the operetta in 1905 and flooded it with catchy tunes: There I go to Maxim , Come to the small pavilion or Lips are silent .
Since the 1950s, even the great sopranos of the opera stage have sung the title role, because it gave them access to television, which was newly invented at the time, and they could earn a decent amount of money there. And the story is also about money: the penniless farmer's daughter Hanna has become a rich widow after only eight days of marriage to an old banker. Since then she has been the most sought-after woman in Parisian society. Everyone wants their millions and only Danilo really loves them. But he doesn't dare to tell her because he had previously dumped her because of her background.
These two lovers wrestle with their feelings and try to come together with wit and cunning. But before that happens, in the summery production by Rainer Holzapfel and under the lively musical direction of Martin Hannus, they whirl through a society of colorful, dazzling couples in which everything loves, cheats and desires everything that can sing and dance.
