The operetta, composed in 1905 to a libretto by Victor Léon and Leo Stein, had its premiere at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna on December 30, 1905. Although initially both the public's reaction and the critics' opinions were unflattering, "The Merry Widow" quickly gained immense popularity. In Poland, it was staged for the first time in Warsaw, one year after its premiere in Vienna (November 16). Today, the refrain of the famous duo of the two main characters - Hanna Glawari and Count Daniła - "Mouth is silent, the soul sings", can be heard by everyone.

The work, included in the classics of the operetta repertoire, will also appear on the stage of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, in the Polish language version, by Jerzy Jurandot and Józef Słotwiński, translated by Michał Znaniecki.

Franz Lehár's operetta tells the story of the eponymous widow - Hanna, a citizen of the imaginary Duchy of Pontevedra, fabulously wealthy thanks to the inheritance of her husband - a banker.
What can a woman do in such a situation? For example, go to… Paris, go crazy and fall in love! What if love leads to marriage with a foreigner? Then money will also leave the country, making the Pontevedra Minister of the Treasury a pounding heart. Plots and secrets - all this to trick Hannah from a potential marriage. Will the series of events lead to a happy ending?

One thing is certain - we will be delighted with the wonderful music of Franz Lehár in an excellent performance.
