Mozart's masterpiece has troubled the thinking man for more than two hundred years. Both the performer and the listener come across puzzles that need to be solved again and again at many points in his musical-dramatic web. Composed to the libretto of Lorenzo Da Ponte, the air of eroticism surrounds everything.

The opera begins like a crime story: trespassing and then murder in the open street. Although the whole story seems to be about the characters searching for the murderer, the role of crime and guilt is pushed into the background behind the rise and fall of Don Giovanni.

Mozart remekműve több mint kétszáz éve nyugtalanítja a gondolkodó embert. Előadója és hallgatója egyaránt újból és újból megfejtendő rejtvényekbe ütközik zenei-drámai szövedékének számos pontján. A Lorenzo Da Ponte librettójára komponált műben mindent körbeleng az erotika levegője.

Az opera krimiszerűen indul: magánlaksértés majd gyilkosság a nyílt utcán. Noha az egész történet mintha arról szólna, hogy a szereplők a gyilkost keresik, a bűn és bűnhődés szerepe háttérbe szorul Don Giovanni tündöklése és bukása mögött.
