Who says Don Giovanni , says Mozart. Yet the myth of the sacrilegious libertine and unrepentant womanizer is much older. Since the seventeenth century, tradition has seen him as the protagonist of the devotional parable, of fairy tales, of the theater in the square, of ever more numerous literary and musical expressions. After almost two centuries of variations, the myth arrives in the hands of Mozart and Da Ponte and the result is Il Dissoluto punito i.e. Don Giovanni, a new masterpiece that debuted in Prague on 29 October 1787. The story is well known to the public but thanks to Mozart that the 'debauched' will have its definitive consecration. The Don Juanin fact possesses an unrivaled expressive charge. From the overture, to the solo arias, from the vocal ensembles to the grandiose finales of the two acts of the opera, comedy and tragedy, the earthly world and the celestial world follow one another and interpenetrate admirably and without setbacks. Don Giovanni even takes on a heroic stature and the fascination he exerts on the listener is far superior to his misdeeds. It is no coincidence that music is on his side, dialectics as well, while the characters who are related to him remain dazzled by his solar energy, shining with reflected light. And then that just ending already anticipated by the title is of little value: the 'debauched' will indeed burn in the flames of hell, but like the phoenix it will be reborn from its own ashes with each listen, because the myths - Mozartdocet - never die.

Chi dice Don Giovanni, dice Mozart. Eppure il mito del libertino sacrilego e donnaiolo impenitente è ben più antico. Dal XVII secolo la tradizione lo ha visto protagonista della parabola devozionale, della favola, del teatro di piazza, di espressioni letterarie e musicali sempre più numerose. Dopo quasi due secoli di declinazioni, il mito arriva tra le mani di Mozart e Da Ponte e il risultato è Il Dissoluto punito ossia Il Don Giovanni, nuovo capolavoro che debutta a Praga il 29 ottobre 1787. La storia è ben nota al pubblico ma è grazie a Mozart che il ‘dissoluto’ avrà la sua consacrazione definitiva. Il Don Giovanni mozartiano possiede infatti una carica espressiva senza eguali. Dall’ouverture, alle arie solistiche, dagli ensemble vocali ai grandiosi finali dei due atti dell’opera, commedia e tragedia, mondo terreno e mondo celeste si susseguono e si compenetrano mirabilmente e senza battute d’arresto. Don Giovanni assume addirittura una statura eroica e il fascino che esercita sull’ascoltatore risulta di gran lunga superiore alle sue malefatte. Non a caso la musica è dalla sua parte, la dialettica pure, mentre i personaggi che sono a lui legati rimangono abbagliati dalla sua energia solare, brillando di luce riflessa. E allora a poco vale quella giusta fine già anticipata dal titolo: il ‘dissoluto’ brucerà sì tra le fiamme dell’inferno, ma come l’araba fenice rinascerà dalle proprie ceneri a ogni ascolto, perché i miti - Mozart docet - non muoiono mai.
