And even if the world were to end, nothing could scare me. After trying to seduce Donna Anna, Don Giovanni is involved in a duel with her father, during which he kills the Commendatore. Pursued by bad luck, he and his servant Leporello then meet Donna Elvira, who Giovanni had recently betrayed. While this encounter ends in Giovanni's defeat, Donna Elvira also thwarts an attempt by the libertine to seduce the young bride Zerlina, whom he had already snatched from the hands of her bridegroom Masetto. Giovanni announces a festival for the evening, at which he intends to conquer Zerlina again. Meanwhile, Donna Anna has recognized Giovanni as her father's nighttime seducer and murderer and demands revenge from her fiancé, Don Ottavio. In the general confusion of the feast, Giovanni manages to escape once more, After the overwhelming success of the Prague performances of The Marriage of Figaro in January 1787, Mozart and his librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte were commissioned by the impresario Pasquale Bondini to write another opera for Prague for the coming season. The choice fell on Don Juan -Material that the Spanish baroque poet Tirso de Molina first designed as a comedy with El Burlador de Sevilla, published around 1630. The premiere of Mozart's and Da Ponte's Don Giovannion October 29, 1787 in the Prague National Theater was the greatest triumph in Mozart's life, while the "opera of all operas", later fondly titled by that name, was initially rejected by Viennese contemporaries: "The opera is delicious, is divine, maybe even better than Figaro " , Emperor Joseph II is said to have raved, "but it is no food for the teeth of my Viennese." - With Don Giovanni, artistic director Markus Trabusch introduces himself for the first time as the director of a Mozart opera at the Mainfranken Theater
