Created in Vienna on December 22, 1669, El Prometeo, Antonio Draghi's “Italian opera in Spanish” remained in the shadow of silence for almost 350 years! The score has been kept incomplete since its creation at the Léopoldine Library in Vienna, its overture and third act having disappeared. A perfect opportunity for Argentinian conductor Leonardo García Alarcón, a specialist in baroque music and a musicologist with a vocation to rediscover, and make people discover, the still little-known works of the baroque repertoire. In the already ambitious project of a new scenic representation of Draghi's work, García Alarcón imposes on himself the not least challenge of composing the missing music in order to complete the work, following in the musical footsteps of Antonio Draghi, itself expressing influences from Cavalliet de Monteverdiet from the Venetian operatic tradition. Opera with Italian influences, born from the pen of an Italian composer, the work is nevertheless expressed in Spanish, composed on a Spanish libretto subject to the influences of the political domination of the Spanish Empire of the time and designed to the birthday parties of Maria Anne of Austria, Queen of Spain, at the Imperial Court in Vienna. Inspired by a play by poet and playwright Pedro Calderón de la Barca, the libretto of El Prometeo, a subject of titanic proportions, brings the gods of mythology down to human scale: in search of love, Draghi's Prometheus is a man at the mercy of the emotions of the heart and human psychology, led by the gods of madness to redemption. Not the only one to suffer from the vagaries of love, the story of Prometheus is superimposed on that of Peleus and the sea nymph Thetis. Directed by Laurent Delvert from working sketches by Gustavo Tambascio (who died before he could complete his staging), frames a plot that mixes men and gods worthy of the Venetian operas of the time through a set both sober but rich in visual access to the moods and psychological springs of the
