The work in brief 

ACT ONE 

﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿From an alpine hill, Pietro, a shepherd, descends towards the valley, stops near an urn and remembers his wife, Agnese.  Henry arrives - his son - who, happy, yearns for his beloved, Elisa, unfortunately far away.  Once in their home, Brunone, an old friend of Pietro's, introduces himself, bringing the news of the accession to the throne of Guido, son of the usurper Ulrico.  Pietro confesses that, in reality, Henry is not his son, but the legitimate heir to the throne of Burgundy, saved by him after the latest upheavals in the County of Burgundy.  Enrico, who has secretly heard the whole truth, is animated with courage and decides to regain what is his due.  Meanwhile, in the castle of Arles, Guido is waiting to meet his beloved Elisa who, in a very short time, will become his wife.  The girl, on the contrary, is oppressed by the idea of ​​this forced marriage, considering that her heart beats only for Enrico.  Just as the two are about to get married, Pietro and Enrico appear armed, who have come to save Elisa.  Guido, however, has the upper hand and the attack is repulsed.  ACT II Night comes, Brunone gathers a handful of loyalists to plot a conspiracy and defenestrate Guido.  Meanwhile, in another room of the Castle, Guido threatens Elisa: if she does not agree to marry him the next day, she will suffer the consequences of her fury.  Left alone, Elisa sinks into her despair but is reassured by the appearance of Enrico who, in the meantime, has managed to sneak into the castle.  Guido arrives again who, furious, surprises the two lovers.  Henry then reveals his true identity: he is the legitimate Count of Burgundy.  In general amazement, the castle is invaded by Henry's army who finally wins, thus regaining, at the same time, the throne and the hand of his beloved. 


SECOND ACT 

﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿When night comes, Brunone gathers a handful of loyalists to plot a conspiracy and defenestrate Guido.  Meanwhile, in another room of the Castle, Guido threatens Elisa: if she does not agree to marry him the next day, she will suffer the consequences of her fury.  Left alone, Elisa sinks into her despair but is reassured by the appearance of Enrico who, in the meantime, has managed to sneak into the castle.  Guido arrives again who, furious, surprises the two lovers.  Henry then reveals his true identity: he is the legitimate Count of Burgundy.  In general amazement, the castle is invaded by Henry's army who finally wins, thus regaining, at the same time, the throne and the hand of his beloved. 


Overview 

ACT ONE 

From the top of the Alps, Pietro, a shepherd, walks down towards the valley and stops next to an urn to pay tribute to his wife, Agnese. He is approached by Enrico - his son - who is happy and full of desire to see his beloved Elisa, who is far away. Upon reaching their destination they are met by Brunone, Pietro’s old friend, bringing the news that Guido, son of the usurper Ulrico, has ascended to the throne. Pietro confesses that Enrico isn’t actually his son, but he is indeed the legitimate heir to the throne of Borgogna, whom he had saved during the latest revolutions in the County of Borgogna. Enrico, who’s heard the truth while hiding, finds to courage to fight for what belongs to him. In the meantime, in the castle of Arles, Guido is waiting to meet his beloved Elisa, who will soon become his wife. The girl, on the other side, is distressed at the idea of this forced marriage, since her love is all for Enrico. Just as the two are about to be sealed in marriage, Pietro and Enrico appear to save Elisa. Guido, though, has the better of the battle and the assaulting party is pushed back. 


SECOND ACT 

﻿At night Brunone gathers a bunch of his closest people and builds up a conspiracy to oust Guido. In a different room of the castle, in the meantime, Guido threatens Elisa: if on the following day she will not marry him she will bear the consequences of his wrath. Once alone, Elisa is desperate, but soon finds peace from the arrival of Enrico who, in the meantime, was able to enter the castle. Guido enters and is furious to find the two lovers. Enrico reveals his true identity: he is the legitimate Count of Borgogna. To general surprise the castle is assaulted by Enrico’s army who finally wins the battle, thus conquering both the throne and the hand of his beloved.
