Evoking the character of Eurydice in an opera is a challenge as the heritage is heavy: Monteverdi with Orfeo , Glück with Orpheus and Eurydice , even Offenbach with Orpheus in the underworld . Russian composer Dmitri Kourliandsky (1976) does not care. He attacks the myth of cursed lovers armed with the refined edge of his learned music and projects it into a theater of sound shadows whose opacity encloses the stage.

This opera, mainly focused on the character of Eurydice (the soprano Jeanne Crousaud), did not originally foresee the presence of Orpheus - whom, let us remember, descends into hell to find his dead wife and loses her. a second time on the way home because of having turned around. The director Antoine Gindt plays on the persistence of the memory of Orpheus and spins the metaphor by entrusting the role to a great Orpheus: the dancer Dominique Mercy, who embodied him in Orphée et Eurydice by Pina Bausch, of which he was part of the company, Tanztheater Wuppertal, for thirty-five years.
