Puccini is the greatest opera master after Verdi. In his works, he gives verismo a new direction and new content. Although the brutal verismo of the executioner's knife, the West American gallows and the military platoon (Tosca, The Girl from the West) determine the character and level of some of his works, the others (Cloak, Sister Angelica and Gianni Skiki) are reminiscent of the concentrated drama of the first of Italian verists, Puccini in his other works (Bohemia, Manon Lescaut) is reminiscent of French opera lyrics, or goes his own exotic way (Madame Butterfly, Turandot) .... Puccini was explicit for a time, the Triptych is one whole, so one play , and always had to be shown in its entirety. Luigi Ritchie claims that after a play in Florence in 1920, Puccini still saw that he was so old, the Triptych was terribly long and tiring, with breaks, almost four hours. "I'm tired, too, who am the author," and he allowed it to be shared. After that, Skiki went everywhere alone, with Cavalry or Clowns. And in London with Salome! Later, the Cloak began to experience satisfaction, conquering with its atmosphere on the river Seine and exceptional drama. Only Sister Angelica remained the festival opera, that is, the one that is sometimes given, although Sartori claims that it is the best, which was Puccini's opinion.
