Romantic love, mortal jealousy and an obsessive desire for revenge are the driving dramatic elements of Verdi's opera The Troubadour, which premiered on January 19, 1853 in Rome. It was created on the libretto by Salvatore Cammaran, and is designed in four acts. The music of the opera is characterized by beautiful, at the same time wild energy, spectacularly conducted vocal sections that convey strong feelings, while the extremely intricate story abounds in fiery passion. With the Troubadour, Giuseppe Verdi reached the pinnacle of musical mastery and the expressive power of his so-called middle period of creation. The opera is fascinating because of the extraordinarily expressive music, psychologically rounded characters and diverse and exotic locations of the plot. The musical direction of the opera was entrusted to maestro Marcello Mottadelli.
