Since its first production in Rome on an unusually dark and stormy night a century and a half ago, Il trovatore has been one of the most popular operas in the world. The reason for this popularity, at least in part, may be that it has so many tunes that everyone knows from childhood. The choir "Miserere", "We will return to the native mountains", the gypsy choir with hammer blows on the anvil, Count di Luna's aria "II balen del suo sorriso" ("The light of her clear smile") - these are just a few of the wonderful melodies that form our culture.

The plot of the opera is based on real facts that really took place in Spain in the 15th century, but the episodes of the opera are arranged in such a way that many key circumstances occur either before the start of the main action of the opera, or in the period of time that is supposed to pass between its actions. . And here's another thing: since the music of the opera is unusually expressive, it is always quite clear whether the character is happy or sad, whether he loves or hates. And the intensity of passions in Il trovatore does not weaken until the very last chord of the opera.
