JULEORATORIET
Én af julens faste traditioner er Copenhagen Phils opførelse af Bachs Juleoratorium. Så glem gaveindkøb og juletravlhed i nogle timer og følg i stedet med Copenhagen Phil og Københavns Drengekor til Bachs forunderlige juleverden.

Julen er en travl tid for alle – også for en komponist som Johann Sebastian Bach i 1730’erne. Han er ikke alene ansvarlig for al musik i Leipzigs kirker og for undervisningen af eleverne ved den tilknyttede skole – han skal også skrive ny musik til de mange helligdage. Og midt i en hverdag, som ville have givet de fleste stress i løbet af en enkelt uge, skriver Bach nogle af den vestlige civilisations største mesterværker.

I Juleoratoriet er det meget naturligt fortællingen om jesusbarnets fødsel, om hyrderne på marken og alle de kendte scener fra juleevangeliet, der er i centrum. Bach fortæller historien med drama, inderlighed og eminent sans for at udnytte hele spektret af medvirkende. Fra helt intime satser med blot et par instrumenter og en enkelt solist, til det helt store udtræk med fuldt kor og orkester.

THE CHRISTMAS ORATORIO
One of the fixed traditions of Christmas is Copenhagen Phil's performance of Bach's Christmas Oratorio . So forget gift shopping and Christmas hustle and bustle for a few hours and instead follow Copenhagen Phil and the Copenhagen Boys' Choir to Bach's wonderful Christmas world.

Christmas is a busy time for everyone – even for a composer like Johann Sebastian Bach in the 1730s. He is not only responsible for all music in Leipzig's churches and for the teaching of the students at the affiliated school – he also has to write new music for the many holidays. And in the midst of an everyday life that would have given most people stress in a single week, Bach writes some of the greatest masterpieces of Western civilization.

In the Christmas Oratorio, it is very natural that the story of the birth of the baby Jesus, of the shepherds in the field and all the well-known scenes from the Christmas Gospel are at the center. Bach tells the story with drama, fervour, and an eminent sense of utilizing the full spectrum of the cast. From completely intimate movements with just a few instruments and a single soloist, to the very large excerpt with a full choir and orchestra.
