Sowohl bei Mozart als auch bei Max Bruch fiel die Wahl auf die ungewöhnliche Kammer-Besetzung aus persönlichen Gründen: Das »Kegelstatt«-Trio entstand im Kreise enger Freunde – ob tatsächlich beim Kegeln wäre Mozart zuzutrauen, bleibt aber eine Anekdote. Max Bruch wiederum schrieb seine »8 Stücke« für seinen 25-jährigen Sohn Max Felix.
