That a sound sounds specifically the way it does is explained through the spectrum of harmonics. That is to say, the sounds do not generate a single wave, but a sum of the waves, even if our ear is not able to perceive, in general, the set. However, acoustic physics allows us to study this complexity that constitutes the specificity of sound based on its spatialization; for example, from spectroscopic analysis. For this reason, Grisey speaks of "acoustic spaces", since, as he suggests, he no longer works from notes, but from sounds; that is to say, from the opening of the spectrum, which serves to build the piece. Kraft also talks about sounds and space: the compositional work tries to reveal the "force" (as the title suggests) of the "power of sound", not so dependent on the specific timbre of each instrument but on the sound mass. In addition, he proposes to play with the linear listening that suggests the construction of the auditoriums. For this purpose, the soloists are amplified and the sound spreads throughout the room. At the same time, several instrumental groups are distributed in different places in the space. In Lindberg's work, Grisey's acoustic space goes outward.

Que un so soni específicament com ho fa s’explica a través de l’espectre d’harmònics. És a dir, els sons no generen una única ona, sinó una suma de les ones, encara que la nostra oïda no sigui capaç de percebre’n, en general, el conjunt. Tot i això, la física acústica ens permet estudiar aquesta complexitat que constitueix l’especificitat del so a partir de la seva espacialització; per exemple, a partir de l’anàlisi espectroscòpica. Per això, Grisey parla d’”espais acústics”, ja que, tal com ell planteja, ja no treballa a partir de notes, sinó de sons; és a dir, des de l’obertura de l’espectre, que serveix per construir la peça. De sons i espai també en parla Kraft: el treball compositiu intenta fer palesa la “força” (com presenta el títol) del “poder del so”, no tan pendent del timbre específic de cada instrument sinó de la massa sonora. A més, proposa jugar amb l’escolta lineal que suggereix la construcció dels auditoris. Amb aquesta finalitat, s’amplifiquen els solistes i el so es difon per la sala. Al mateix temps, diversos grups instrumentals es distribueixen en diferents llocs de l’espai. A l’obra de Lindberg, l’espai acústic de Grisey va cap enfora.
