Joy and pain alternate in love.

The life of artists in a mansard in the Latin Quarter is a merry one. It doesn’t matter that there is no money for the rent, it’s snowing outside and a half-written novel is burning in the stove instead of coal. Rudolf, Marcello and Collin always manage somehow. What confuses them, though, is love. Marcello is troubled because of unstable and capricious Musetta, while Rudolf and dressmaker Mimi seem to be made for one another, but even there the idyll doesn’t last long. Puccini´ s La bohème was inspired by the French writer Henry Murger’s novel La Vie de bohème, a tale about the life of Parisian students and artists in the middle of the 19th century that rightfully became one of the most popular operas. Even though the composer was initially reluctant to set the topic to music, he created a piece that’s overflowing with joy as well as sadness, and the whirlwind of emotions hidden in the music will not fail to touch the heart of all who hear it. In La bohème, partly thanks to his own experiences from the period when he was a student at the Conservatory, when he found himself in similar situations to his fictitious opera compatriots, Puccini created an impressive and plausible picture of a famous Parisian quarter populated with diverse characters.

In der Liebe begegnen sich Freude und Schmerz.

Lustig ist das Künstlerleben in der Mansardenwohnung im Quartier Latin. Niemanden stört es, dass kein Geld für die Miete da ist, dass es draußen schneit und im Ofen statt Kohlen ein angefangener Roman brennt. Rodolfo, Marcello und Colline schlagen sich immer irgendwie durch. Was ihnen allerdings den Kopf verdreht, ist die Liebe. Marcello quält sich mit der unsteten und launenhaften Musetta, Rodolfo und die Näherin Mimì scheinen wie füreinander geschaffen zu sein, doch auch hier ist die Idylle nicht von langer Dauer. Puccinis Oper La Bohème basiert auf dem Roman Scènes de la vie de bohème des französischen Autors Henri Murger über das Leben Pariser Studenten und Künstler in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts und wurde mit vollem Recht zu einer der populärsten Opern überhaupt. Nachdem der Komponist zunächst gezögert hatte, dieses Sujet zu vertonen, entstand schließlich ein Werk voll der Freude wir auch der Trauer, und die Vielzahl der in der Musik verborgenen Emotionen lässt wohl keinen Zuhörer unberührt. Auch dank seinen Erfahrungen aus der eigenen Studienzeit am Konservatorium, als er ähnliche Situationen wie die heiteren Wohnungsgenossen aus der Oper erlebte, ist es Puccini gelungen, ein sehr wirkungsvolles und glaubhaftes Bild des berühmten Pariser Viertels und seiner vielfältigen Charaktere zu zeichnen.

Veselý je život umělecký v mansardě v Latinské čtvrti. Nic nevadí, že není na nájem, venku sněží a v kamnech hoří místo uhlí rozepsaný román. Rudolf, Marcello i Collin si vždycky nějak poradí. Co jim ale zamotá hlavu, je láska. Marcello se trápí pro nestálou a rozmarnou Musettu, Rudof a švadlenka Mimi se zdají být jako pro sebe stvořeni, jenže ani tady nemá idyla dlouhého trvání. Pucciniho La bohème inspi­rovaná románem francouzského spisovatele Henriho Murgera La Vie de bohèmeo životě pařížských studentů a umělců v polovině 19. sto­letí se stala jednou z nejpopulárnějších oper zcela právem. I když se skladatel zpočátku zdráhal námět zhudebnit, vytvořil dílo plné radosti i smutku a smršť v hudbě ukrytých emocí nenechá nikoho z poslucha­čů chladným. Puccini i díky své zkušenosti z dob studií na konzervato­ři, kdy sám prožíval podobné situace jako jeho operní kumpáni, vykres­lil působivý a věrohodný obrázek ze slavné pařížské čtvrti zalidněný rozmanitými charaktery.
