The legendary German opera director Peter Konwitschny returned to Bratislava to study another title in SND after Eugene Onegin and Madama Butterfly – Puccini's Boheme. An engaging story about four young poor artists is told by the director without sentimentality, simply and convincingly. Puccini's veristic interpretation mixes funny scenes with tragic ones as a faithful picture of everyday life; and Konwitschné's view of it is penetrating and full of understanding. Where is the line between smiling and crying? Are young men on the fringes of society looking for a woman's arms just for the heck of it, or is the desire for love their cry for help? In the hands of director Konwitschný, Bohéme loses none of its beauty - and at the same time gains dramatic truth and power.

Legendárny nemecký operný režisér Peter Konwitschny sa vrátil do Bratislavy, aby po Eugenovi Oneginovi a Madama Butterfly naštudoval v SND ďalší titul – Pucciniho Bohému. Pútavý príbeh o štvorici mladých chudobných umelcov rozpráva režisér bez sentimentality, prosto a presvedčivo. Pucciniho veristický výklad mieša úsmevné scény s tragickými ako verný obraz všedného života; a Konwitschného pohľad naň je prenikavý i plný porozumenia. Kade vedie hranica medzi úsmevom a plačom? Hľadajú mladí muži na okraji spoločnosti ženskú náruč len tak, z roztopaše, alebo je túžba po láske ich volaním o pomoc? V rukách režiséra Konwitschného nestráca Bohéma nič zo svojej krásy – a zároveň získava na dramatickej pravdivosti a sile.
