An emblematic composer between the wars, Maurice Yvain is one of the most brilliant representatives of the new operetta of the 1920s, a true synthesis between the Jazz which arrives from the United States and the French heritage of the Operetta and the Café-concert. .

After the success of  Ta Bouche , Yvain wrote a tailor-made  jazz operetta  for Maurice Chevalier, the star of the Casino de Paris, and Dranem, star of the pre-1914 café-concert.  Up there  is conceived as a suite of ensembles and songs whose musical style adapts for each role to the characteristics of its creators (the carefree syncopations of Évariste / Chevalier, the refinement of Emma, ​​the popular saucy of Frisotin / Dranem, not to mention the parodic angels of the fallen heavens of Gounod…). Like a tidal wave of heady refrains, the score almost conceals from us, under its apparent ease, all the art, inspiration and know-how of its author.

The Frivolités Parisiennes orchestra, already very familiar with this style, will bring its humor, lightness and energy to this twirling music. (Nicolas Chesneau)
