At the same time that Myung-Whun Chung was consolidating his reputation as one of the most talented conductors of his generation, his affinity with the work of Olivier Messiaen made him a specialist in the French composer's music. The closeness between the two would lead Messiaen to hand over to Chung the direction of the world premiere of his Concert à Quatre , in 1994, even dedicating the piece to the South Korean maestro. In the Grand Auditorium, Chung will conduct one of the most impressive religious creations by the French composer, La Transfiguration de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ , commissioned by the Gulbenkian Foundation, premiered in 1969. This concert is part of a tribute to Madalena de Azeredo Perdigão , on the centenary of her birth .

Ao mesmo tempo que Myung-Whun Chung foi consolidando a sua reputação como um dos mais talentosos maestros da sua geração, a afinidade com a obra de Olivier Messiaen tornou-o um especialista na música do compositor francês.
